From ‘Terrible’ to ‘Terrific’: How a Typo Turned My Day Around

Jul 11, 2024

Auto-correct did more than fix my spelling, it fixed my day.

Every morning, my operations manager Ainy sends me a “good morning” note, despite the time difference.  Her next message is usually, “How are you?”  The other day, I was NOT GOOD.

It wasn’t a good morning for me at all.  I couldn’t disguise it and wanted to dump my frustrations onto anyone that asked.  She asked…

There were too many things going on.  Too many self-imposed deadlines.  Too little time.  Too much scheduling that wasn’t aligning.

I started to type... "T", "E", "R"... wanting to type in "TERRIBLE" but my phone auto-corrected to say "TERRIFIC".  The Universe was telling me, encouraging me, and willing me to make my day “terrific” instead.

I thought why not be "terrific"?  That split-second thought made me laugh and changed my mood and my mindset for the entire day.  It turned out to be terrific.  (Just another reminder to don’t resist, to go with the flow, to be flexible, and to #BeBamboo).   I will make sure to share this story with my “disinter” the next time I text my “sister” (makes us both laugh every time!).

Changing your mindset from “terrible” to “terrific” can significantly impact your day. Let’s explore how this simple shift can make a difference:

  1. Spot the Positive: Instead of magnifying every negative aspect (like a magnifying glass), focus on the terrific moments. Acknowledge good behavior and character growth in yourself and others.

  2. Understand Developmental Phases: When faced with challenges, consider what’s happening in the situation or the other person. For instance, toddlers aren’t trying to manipulate you during tantrums; they’re exploring their world. Embrace their developmental phase with empathy.

  3. Gratitude: Avoid excessive complaining. Venting is okay, but dwelling on negativity shapes your perspective. Choose to be grateful for the positive aspects of your day.

Remember, it’s not about perfection; it’s about progress. By adopting a “terrific” mindset, you’ll navigate your day with more understanding, gratitude, and positivity! 😊.
