Most People Don't.
But You Can.

Most people stay still because it feels safe.

They stick to the plan, blend into the background, prefer not to rock the boat. If you hide, maybe no one will notice. Maybe you'll remain under the radar and not be called out.

But still water? It gets stagnant.

That’s why this week’s "Most People Don't...But YOU Do!" podcast guest, Jimmy Vetrano—President & Founder of 2626 Digital & Partner of Sushi Hall in Chicago, (Lincoln Park’s favorite neighborhood restaurant), and all-around good human—reminded us of something powerful:

“Most people don’t make a splash. But YOU should.”

A splash doesn’t have to be loud.

It can be standing up for your team when it’s hard.
Helping someone without being asked.
Simply noticing a person everyone else seems to walk past.
Like Jaylon. This young man isn’t a manager.

His role is to clear guests’ trays in an Airport Lounge at DFW Airport. On a return trip after presenting to Quorum Hospitality (another incredible organization), I observed something special.

I noticed Jaylon smiling with every step.

He actually danced a little as he swept in to pick up someone’s completed dish.

He made people feel seen, by making eye contact and smiling, as he collected each travelers' empty dishes.

I saw him.

I strategically left an extra tip in the container where he placed the dirty dishes.

As soon as he found it, he lit up.

He looked around to see if this was a mistake. We caught eyes & I smiled. “You made my day. You made my year,” he said. It wasn't about the money; it was about being seen. It was about being noticed and appreciated.

That’s what it means to make a splash.

Don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait for applause. Don't hesitate for any reason.

Be the person who creates waves of positivity—wherever you are.

Try This:
Where are you being still? How you could make a ripple?
Notice. Anticipate. Overdeliver.

One action this week.

That’s all it takes.

Hospitality isn’t just about service, it’s about impact.

Studies show that businesses with strong emotional connections to customers see 23% higher revenue growth compared to competitors.

Making a splash isn’t just good for people—it’s good for business.
