“Make it Count”…

May 17, 2024

His best friend is 89 years old, more than twice his age.  He has lunch with him 3x a week.  Together they talk, share stories, and help mentor each other through life.  For a special surprise, after their lunch one day,  he took his friend to the top of a mountain in Aspen.  He found two Colorado rocks and insisted that they each make an “intention” on each stone before tossing it below, thousands of feet.  The caveat, however, was that the thought had to be extremely powerful, as realistically, each one of them most likely would be “the last human being to ever physically touch each rock.”

That simple statement upped the ante and brought massive realization to this symbolic act.

The intention had better be solid.

The energy and passion toward accomplishing this thought had to be MORE THAN ENOUGH to manifest it.

Even determining the intention had to be extremely thoughtful.

“Make it Count”…

“IT” symbolically became the throw, the thought, the action, the effort, the time, and THE LIFE.

There is a statement that compares 86,400 (the number of seconds in a day) to money.  Imagine if you were to receive $86,400 this morning.  The stipulation is that any remaining money not spent would disappear at midnight.  If all align properly, tomorrow you would again receive $86,400 and the same would happen at the end of the day.

“Make it Count”

You would spend and/or give away every dollar because you wouldn’t be able to “take it with you” to the next day.

Imagine if we all lived our lives this way.  Embrace, enjoy, and appreciate every second because at the end of the day, it will be gone.

“Make it Count”

Every second, every minute, every day and every interaction is an opportunity.

On our way back home from Colorado, fortuitously we met a couple at the airport that was taking the trip of a lifetime for 3 weeks in Europe.  They shared that the book “Die With Zero” by Bill Perkins influenced their decision to not wait and to “Make it Count.”

What intention would you give a stone that “no other human being would ever physically touch?”

What is one thing that you will do during your gifted 86,400 seconds today to “Make it Count?”

(Thank you Jared and Jess for sharing this extraordinary story!  I hope to meet Jared’s best friend soon and toss a stone together.)
