Momentum Forward, Enthusiasm High (3 tips)

As we enter into Memorial Day weekend, many of you will be busier than ever. It's the start of the season in which revenues will be great, and the financial success for the year begins for those in the service world.

For those not in the hospitality industry, you will still benefit by learning ways to keep your momentum going forward and keeping your enthusiasm high as summer begins. We are now almost 6 months into the year. You feel great and positive today! Well done!

I actually received the question below this week and quickly summarized a few things that have worked exceptionally well.

"How can you maintain feeling great and positive for 6 more months in 2024? Not only for you but for your team?"

Celebrate the wins, year to date and every day.

1. GIVE TO OTHERS
Each week, share with your team that one of their most important daily tasks is to GIVE a gratitude gesture, and the REASON/WHY behind it.

Celebrate, Celebrate, Celebrate!

  • What did you see? Who did you “see” doing something AMAZING? Who did it help?

Focus on Success, not mistakes or failures.

There is a viral TikTok video in which a person shares his story about his best leader that would ask “Where did YOU find the blueberries”. He sought successes not failures and would celebrate the “how” behind other's ability to find the wins. He wouldn’t ask, “What did you do wrong to NOT FIND the blueberries?”

2. CAPTURE THE FEELINGS
As a team, ask two more questions:

  • How did it make the recipient feel?
  • And how did it make you feel?

Put the answers on a whiteboard under these two categories. 
(MADE YOU FEEL and OTHER’S FEELINGS).  Next identify the TASKS that you will do to continue to OVER-DELIVER and create these feelings? For each other, for your clients, your guests, your family, or your stakeholders.

This becomes YOUR LIVING VISION BOARD, to help you replicate these feelings in pursuit of excellence.

3. CELEBRATE THE WINS DAILY (small and BIG)

  • Don’t wait until the project is over, or until the season is finished to celebrate. Search for and grab the little wins along the way. The same approach applies to fitness goals. If I have a goal to lose 10 pounds, I may have to wait 3-6 months to cross off this accomplishment. That’s a long time to wait before a box can be checked. Instead, imagine if I have a goal “to focus on my fitness and wellbeing”. If I simply “do my best” toward this “should do”, I can celebrate daily. When I chose to walk up the stairs instead of riding the elevator, I give myself credit for “doing my best”. That is a win!
  • What are the results of giving and showing gratitude to others?
  • In addition to the feelings of the giver and receiver, did it create feelings for those that heard the stories? Did it create a contagious culture for doing?
