"You are EXACTLY who (and where) you are meant to be"

May 31, 2024

Today’s podcast with Glenn Haussman surprised me.  In my mind, he has been on top of the world since I first heard his name.  On stage, on shows, in podcasts.

As you listen, you will also hear what I heard.  My introduction for him did not sound correct from his perspective.  Did he really accomplish all of these things?

He shared that he feels like he is perpetually behind.   I showed him “the love” and immediately reminded him by telling him, “YOU’RE DOING GREAT!”

Do you ever feel that you are “behind where you should be?”

Behind where your friends are? Behind saving for retirement?  Behind the number of “views, clicks, and followers?”

Behind buying a house, starting a family, getting a title, earning more money?

Give yourself some grace.

YOU ARE EXACTLY WHO AND WHERE YOU ARE MEANT TO BE.

My five greatest life lessons that I learned from this conversation with Glenn that reinforces this idea:

  1. Believe in yourself.  You can create situations where opportunities come to you. Confidence comes with accepting challenges and “doing” them.
  2. Be yourself.  The more often he was his authentic self, the more confident he became.  Listen to my story of saying nothing to the greeting from a housekeeper on my first day with Ritz-Carlton.
  3. Believe in the process.  Even if you’re shy or introverted, you can still have a LARGE VOICE to share with others.  It is your DESTINY, just like Glenn’s purpose.  Get on stage as many times as you need to.  Ask as many questions that are required.  Learn, use your resources, and fulfill your purpose.  Don’t force anything.
  4. Believe in doing good for good sakes.  “The more love you put out in the universe, the more it’s going to come back to you.”  Be open and be generous.
  5. Believe in the power of perspective.  Turn the most negative things into positive things. Handle obstacles with dignity and grace.  Similarly, treat yourself with dignity and grace.

I will be using these items next week and look forward to hearing which ones resonated the most with you!
